Saturday Night Live UK co-host Ania Magliano criticized American comedian Shane Gillis during the show's Weekend Update segment on Saturday. Deadline and Variety TV reported that Magliano targeted Gillis following comments he made while hosting the American version of the sketch comedy show the previous week. [1][2]

The criticism follows an October 10 monologue on Saturday Night Live in New York where Gillis complained about women's attire at the gym, according to New York Times Arts and Deadline. As FTMQ Entertainment reported earlier, Gillis' comments faced backlash from actor Dan Levy and former cast member Ego Nwodim. [1][3][15]

Magliano has been part of the regular cast of Saturday Night Live UK on Sky One since March 2026. Gillis was previously hired as a Saturday Night Live cast member in September 2019 but was fired five days later following controversy over derogatory language used on a podcast, before returning as a guest host. [12][13][15]

Weekend Update is a satirical news program and the longest-running recurring sketch on Saturday Night Live, typically commenting on current events during the middle of the show. [14]
