Actor Skeet Ulrich revealed that his planned three-film arc in the Scream franchise was halted following the firing of co-star Melissa Barrera. Deadline, Entertainment Weekly, IMDb, TheWrap, and the A.V. Club all reported that Ulrich was unable to finish the story arc because the storyline relied on Barrera's character. [1][2][3][4][5]

Ulrich played original Ghostface killer Billy Loomis in the initial 1996 movie and returned as a hallucination to his character's daughter, Sam Loomis, in the fifth and sixth films. Deadline reported that Barrera was fired from the series over her pro-Palestine views, which disrupted the planned progression for the characters. [1][8]

Ulrich stated that without Barrera and her character Sam Loomis, there is no Billy Loomis in the story. In additional comments reported by AOL.com, Ulrich noted that he has only watched the original Scream film three times. [1][6]
