Kacey Musgraves Exchanges Public Criticism With Kristi Noem Following Dallas Concert

Country pop singer Kacey Musgraves and former Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem exchanged public criticisms on social media platform X on October 12, 2026. According to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, the dispute began after Musgraves hosted Democratic United States Senate candidate James Talarico at her concert in Dallas, Texas. [1][2]

The Hollywood Reporter noted that Musgraves hosted Talarico at the American Airlines Center during a pair of back to back shows on her Middle of Nowhere Tour. Variety reported that Noem posted online criticism targeting Musgraves and compared her unfavorably to singer Ella Langley after Talarico shared photos from his front row seat. [1][2][5]

Variety and The Hollywood Reporter both reported that Musgraves responded directly to Noem on X with a reference to Noem's past admission regarding the shooting of her dog. Billboard and Whiskey Riff also reported that the exchange was triggered by Noem expressing preference for Langley following the concert appearance. [1][2][5][6]

Musgraves began her music career in the early 2000s and appeared on the USA Network singing competition Nashville Star in 2007. She signed with Mercury Nashville in 2012 and released her major label debut studio album, Same Trailer Different Park, in 2013. [8]
