A 15-year-old high school student from Maryland has filed a defamation lawsuit seeking at least 20 million dollars in damages against CBS News. Deadline and TheDesk.net both report that the legal action was submitted to the United States District Court in the District of Columbia. [1][2]
According to Deadline, the lawsuit alleges that a CBS News report falsely linked the teenager, identified in court documents as JV, to an arrest for vandalism at the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool last summer. Attorneys for the teenager state that police stopped him for an unrelated reason while he was riding an electronic dirt bike past the National Mall, but he was not arrested for the vandalism. [1]
The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was dedicated in 1922 and is the largest reflecting pool in Washington, D.C. Located between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument, the concrete-bottomed pool holds roughly four million gallons of water. [5]
