Two major documentaries focused on high profile figures are competing at the box office this weekend, according to GoldDerby and Deadline. Bleecker Street expanded Alex Gibney's documentary film Musk to 472 locations, Deadline reported, following a limited initial release on four screens last week. [2][4]
The release puts the documentary in direct competition with A24's Elizabeth Holmes documentary, titled You Can See Everything, which Deadline reported is opening on 855 screens. GoldDerby described both projects as Oscar hungry documentaries vying for audience attention. [2][4]
Director Alex Gibney appeared on IndieWire's Screen Talk podcast to discuss using artificial intelligence to create a simulated CGI avatar interview of Elon Musk for the film. Gibney explained that the production team used the technology to simulate an interview with the tech executive that they were unable to secure in person. [3]
The documentary, which runs three hours and 45 minutes, is distinct from narrative feature films about the businessman, as FTMQ Entertainment reported earlier. [10]
