Blumhouse Highlights Upcoming Film Slate Following Other Mommy Release

Producers Jason Blum and James Wan unveiled the upcoming film slate for Blumhouse and Atomic Monster during a 90-minute presentation at New York Comic-Con on October 9. Variety reported that the showcase included the announcement that Kristen Bell will join the cast of Violent Night 2. The panel also previewed a new installment in the Exorcist franchise starring Scarlett Johansson. [1]

The presentation took place as the company's latest film, Other Mommy, began its theatrical run. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Universal Pictures horror release collected $3.6 million in Thursday previews across 3,200 North American theaters. Universal Pictures projected a $20 million opening weekend for the movie, which carried a $19 million production budget. [1][4]

Directed by Rob Savage, Other Mommy stars Jessica Chastain in dual roles as a working mother named Ursula and a sinister entity that haunts her daughter. GoldDerby and The Hollywood Reporter both reported that the script was written by Nathan Elston, adapting Josh Malerman's 2024 novel Incidents Around the House. The film also features Jay Duplass in a supporting role. [3][4][7]

Critical reception for the project has remained low despite early box office momentum. The Hollywood Reporter noted a critical rating of 18 percent, while GoldDerby placed the Rotten Tomatoes score at 23 percent. Variety noted that Blum and Wan addressed the negative reviews during their presentation, choosing to focus on the overall commercial success of their horror slate. [1][3][4]
