The Universal horror film Other Mommy made 3.6 million dollars in Thursday preview screenings across 2,850 domestic locations, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter both reported. According to Variety and GoldDerby, the project was produced by Blumhouse-Atomic Monster in association with Spin a Black Yarn. The release follows a strong theatrical year for the horror genre after the success of earlier films Obsession and Backrooms, Variety added. [4][5][6][13]

The film stars Jessica Chastain in dual roles as Ursula, a working mother, and a supernatural entity haunting her young daughter, according to GoldDerby. Rob Savage directed the feature from a screenplay by Nathan Elston. The project adapts the 2024 horror novel Incidents Around the House written by Josh Malerman, Variety, GoldDerby, and IndieWire reported. [2][4][7][13]

Critical reception for the release has been predominantly negative. GoldDerby reported that the feature held a 23 percent score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, while iHorror cited an opening rating of 20 percent. Variety called the picture limp and ineffectual, whereas GoldDerby noted that critics widely panned the narrative while praising the lead performance from Jessica Chastain. [2][4][11]

Director Rob Savage previously stated to Entertainment Weekly that the movie features roughly 50 jump scares, Slate Culture reported. The trade reports highlight that the film opens opposite a new feature written by Aaron Sorkin, setting up a competitive box office weekend for domestic multiplexes. [1][6]
