Director Takeuchi Tetsuro presented a new film project titled Wild Zero Overdrive at the Tokyo Gap-Financing Market, Variety reported. The feature film stars the real-life Japanese punk band Guitar Wolf, who regularly tours internationally. [1]
The project serves as a follow-up to Takeuchi’s 1999 comedy horror film Wild Zero, according to Variety. The original 1999 film starred Masashi Endō alongside the rock trio Guitar Wolf during a zombie outbreak. [1][5]
Variety reported that the project is structured as a joint production between Japan and Canada. Takeuchi explained that he is using his original 1999 movie as a template while updating the story for modern audiences. He stated that he wants to convey the energy of raw punk rock in an age dominated by artificial intelligence. [1]
The presentation took place at the content market TIFFCOM, which hosts the Tokyo Gap-Financing Market. TIFFCOM managing director Kaori Ikeda told the Hollywood Reporter Business that there is a growing opportunity to adapt Japanese intellectual property beyond anime and manga, supported by heightened international interest in Japanese culture. As FTMQ Entertainment reported earlier, the market also features other international projects seeking final production funds. [2][7]
