Amazon's Prime Video has launched the biographical drama series The Greatest. As FTMQ Entertainment reported earlier, the eight-episode historical drama about boxer Muhammad Ali was scheduled for release on Wednesday, November 4. Slate Culture reported that the show opens with Ali, born Cassius Clay, winning the light-heavyweight boxing gold medal at the 1960 Rome Olympics. [1][9]
According to reports from IndieWire and The Hollywood Reporter, the eight-part season follows the boxer from his Olympic medal victory through to his first heavyweight championship belt. IndieWire noted that the series was produced in collaboration with the estate of Muhammad Ali. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that creator Ben Watkins leads the series, which stars relative newcomer Jaalen Best as the young boxing legend. [2][3]
Jaalen Best is an American actor who was cast in the lead role of Cassius Clay for the biographical series. Ben Watkins created the project alongside executive producers including Lonnie Ali, Josh Wakely, and Michael B. Jordan. As FTMQ Entertainment reported earlier, wrestler and actor Chris Jericho also joined the cast to play wrestling pioneer Gorgeous George. [8][9]
The series focuses on the early career trajectory of the legendary athlete. According to Slate Culture, the drama framing rejects standard underdog boxing tropes to highlight Ali's early conviction in his own destined success. [1]
