Godzilla Minus Zero Heads to Box Office Top Without Credit Scenes

The kaiju sequel Godzilla Minus Zero is projected to lead the North American box office with an estimated opening weekend of $30 million from 3,254 theaters, Variety reported. The film features neither a mid-credits nor a post-credits scene to tease future installments, according to ComingSoon.net. The release follows the success of its predecessor and introduces the monster King Ghidorah to the narrative. [1][2]

Variety reported that the feature film is competing against other new releases in theaters, including Warner Bros. Animation's The Cat in the Hat, which is aiming for a $20 million opening, and Searchlight's dark comedy Wild Horse Nine, directed by Martin McDonagh and starring John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell. Takashi Yamazaki wrote and directed the sequel, which continues the story of the 2023 film Godzilla Minus One, Deadline reported. The original film became the only Godzilla movie in 70 years to win an Academy Award for Visual Effects, making Yamazaki only the second director after Stanley Kubrick to win the award in that category. The film is set in postwar Japan in 1949 as the nation struggles to rebuild. Returning cast members include Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Yuki Yamada, Kuranosuke Sasaki, Sakura Ando, and Miou Tanaka, alongside new cast additions Min Tanaka, Masami Nagasawa, and Jun Kunimura.
